Journalist and author Melih Bayram Dede’s third book, “Remaining Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” (Yapay Zekâ Çağında İnsan Kalmak), has been published by Liz Publishing (Liz Yayınları).
Having tracked the social, cultural, and geopolitical impacts of technology throughout his career spanning over a quarter of a century, journalist and author Melih Bayram Dede explores ways to preserve human values in a world surrounded by algorithms, large language models, and autonomous systems in his new book. The work serves as a comprehensive reading of our era, focusing on how to safeguard unique human qualities and authentic touch without overlooking the opportunities offered by the digital transformation.
A broad perspective ranging from cyber crises to algorithmic transformation
The book thoroughly examines a wide range of topics, from social media manipulation and echo chamber effects to the disinformation industry and cybersecurity risks. At the same time, the transformative role of artificial intelligence in the labor market, disappearing and emerging professions, debates on “universal basic income without the condition of working,” and the global technological competition between the US and China form the main framework of the work.
Emphasizing that emerging technologies are not merely technical tools but forces that shape society and the human mind, the study suggests developing a rational and conscious approach without falling into pessimism in the face of digitalization.

In the preface, Melih Bayram Dede touches upon his historical witness to the evolution of technology and the starting point of the book, sharing the following insights:
“In my journey of over a quarter-century as a journalist and technology writer, I have witnessed many turning points: from the days of lead-type typesetting to Macintosh computers as the first step of desktop publishing, from the crackling sounds of dial-up connections to fiber internet, and from tube radios to TikTok, ultimately reaching the artificial intelligence revolution. Throughout this entire transformation, one truth remained unchanged: No matter how advanced technology becomes, it is ultimately a reflection of the human mind, spirit, and values that design and direct it. About Melih Bayram Dede
Born in Gebze in 1970, Melih Bayram Dede entered journalism in 1993. Over a career spanning more than a quarter-century, he served as the technology editor for the newspaper Yeni Şafak, the editor-in-chief of yenisafak.com.tr, and the producer and presenter of the TV program TechnoLogic broadcast on TVNET. In 2001, he founded and managed Dergibi, a culture, art, and literature portal that was awarded the “Electronic Publishing Award” by the Writers Union of Turkey (Türkiye Yazarlar Birliği). Recognized for his technology journalism, he has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including the Turkcell Special Award from the Economy Journalists Association (Ekonomi Gazetecileri Derneği) and the IT Writer of the Year Award from the Telecom Association (Telekomcular Derneği). Holding a Permanent Press Card, Dede is a member of the IT Media Association (Bilişim Medyası Derneği) and the Kocaeli Journalists Association (Kocaeli Gazeteciler Cemiyeti). The author has two previously published books: “Internet” (İnsan Yayınları, 2004) and “Technology and Life” (Liz Yayınları, 2023).
