Japanese technology company Konami has announced its new action game, Rhapsody in Scarlet, for the PlayStation 5 platform. Unveiled during Sony’s State of Play and State of Play Japan broadcasts, the title is set in the streets of 1920s New York.

According to information shared by Konami Digital Entertainment Co-Producer Takanori Murayama, the game offers an action structure combining a jazz atmosphere with magic and beast management. The development team created a combo system that brings together close- and long-range attacks with area-of-effect spells.
Wizards and unseen conflicts
The story of the game takes place in the 1920s New York atmosphere. A young character named Ellie, caught in the midst of conflicts among those who practice magic secretly in the city, serves as the main protagonist. Coming to the city to become a jazz singer, Ellie faces a mafia organization and a wizard group called Seekers following an incident.
Characters and voice cast
The two main characters highlighted in the production and their voice casts are as follows:
– Ellie Myers: A young magus who came to the city with the goal of becoming a jazz singer and fights alongside her beast companion, Sköll. The character is voiced by Cherami Leigh in English and Akari Kito in Japanese.
– Ilya Jones: As the leader of the wizard organization Seekers, the character stands out with her order- and responsibility-oriented structure. The character is voiced by Hannah Grace in English and Saori Onishi in Japanese.
Historical period and jazz atmosphere
The development team conducted historical research on the period to reflect the architecture, fashion, cars, and Prohibition-era venues of 1920s New York. Realistic period elements were supported by fantasy elements and jazz music. The game has become available for wishlisting via the PlayStation Store.
