New details have emerged about Apple’s long-rumored first foldable iPhone. Previously referred to as the iPhone Ultra in leaks, the device is now expected to launch under the iPhone Duo name, marking Apple’s entry into the premium foldable smartphone market.
According to reports from global sources, the iPhone Duo will feature a book-style foldable design. The device is expected to have a 5.5-inch cover display on the outside and a 7.8-inch main display when unfolded. With an estimated thickness of around 4.5 mm when open and 9-9.5 mm when folded, the model could become one of Apple’s thinnest iPhones.
Due to the slim design, Apple is reportedly considering replacing Face ID with Touch ID integrated into the power button. The company is also said to be working on a new hinge and display technology designed to make the crease in the foldable panel significantly less visible.
On the hardware side, the iPhone Duo is expected to feature the A20 Pro chip, along with 12 GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256 GB to 2 TB. The rear camera system is reportedly set to include two 48-megapixel sensors, while a telephoto camera may not be included. Apple Pencil support and iPad-like multitasking capabilities are also among the rumored features.
iPhone Duo Could Start at $2,000
According to recent reports attributed to Mark Gurman, the iPhone Duo could start at around $2,000 for the 256 GB version. The 2 TB model could approach the $3,000 mark. The device is expected to go on sale in October and may be offered in white and dark blue color options.
Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market could intensify competition with Samsung, particularly the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The company’s decision to wait before entering the segment has reportedly been linked to its efforts to address issues such as display creasing, durability and device thickness.
