South Korean technology company Samsung introduced its new smartwatch model, Galaxy Watch Ultra2, focused on outdoor activities. The Nutrition Alert and Fluid Loss features on the device estimate the body’s water requirement during high-effort runs and provide real-time guidance to the user.
Fluid loss data converted into guidance
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 analyzes biometric data collected via the Samsung BioActive sensor, activity intensity, and duration. Combining these variables with body weight, the device estimates fluid loss occurring through sweat. Data provided by the Fluid Loss feature is processed by the Nutrition Alert system to generate personalized notifications regarding when and how much water the user should consume. Users with different body masses and exertion levels receive different hydration recommendations even on the exact same trail.
Effort tracking with trail run mode
The device’s dedicated Trail Run mode enables detailed monitoring of performance on rugged terrains. Recording detailed elevation data, climbing progress, and terrain impact, the system facilitates pace management. Working in integration with Trail Run, Nutrition Alert keeps the relationship between exertion and fluid loss under continuous tracking.
Hardware specifications designed for outdoor conditions
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 incorporates hardware components developed for extended outdoor use. The 800 mAh battery offers 35 percent higher capacity compared to the previous Galaxy Watch Ultra model. Reaching up to 5,000 nits of brightness, the screen maintains readability of training data under direct sunlight. Powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, the dual-frequency GPS system enhances the reliability of route and elevation data on trails where signals can be inconsistent.
