US technology company Apple has announced its first foldable form factor smartphone, the iPhone Duo. According to the announcement on September 9, 2026, the device stands out with its dual-display architecture, titanium enclosure, A20 Pro chip, and iOS 27 operating system custom-tailored for foldable design.
Design and display specifications
Featuring an inward-folding architecture, iPhone Duo offers a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR inner display when unfolded. Featuring a nano-texture finish, this screen minimizes glare and crease visibility. When folded, a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display is utilized. Both panels feature 3000 nits peak brightness, ProMotion technology, and Always On display support.
Crafted from grade 5 titanium, the device features Ceramic Shield on the back, while Ceramic Shield 2 on the outer display provides enhanced scratch resistance. The device also holds an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. Biometric authentication is provided by Touch ID integrated into the side button.
Camera system and new capabilities
The rear setup features a 48MP Fusion main camera and a 48MP Fusion ultra-wide camera. The main camera provides an integrated 2x optical-quality telephoto option while supporting 4K 120 fps Dolby Vision video recording. Thanks to the foldable form factor, users can take selfies using the rear cameras while previewing on the outer display.
In addition to a new FaceTime camera concealed beneath the inner display, AI-powered software features such as Smart Take, Duo Preview, and Kid Cue—designed to draw children’s attention to the camera—are introduced.
Performance and battery architecture
iPhone Duo is powered by the A20 Pro chip, manufactured on a 2-nanometer process node. The device incorporates a custom vapor chamber cooling system to manage thermals. Packing a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU, and Dual 16-core Neural Engine, the chip promises higher sustained performance compared to the previous generation.
A dual-battery architecture placed on both sides of the chassis operates as a single battery through software algorithms. Up to 31 hours of video playback is achieved using the inner display, and up to 44 hours using the outer display. The device can reach a 50 percent charge in approximately 20 to 30 minutes via wired or MagSafe charging.
iOS 27, Siri AI, and Apple Intelligence
Reimagined for the foldable display, iOS 27 introduces Split View multitasking capabilities, allowing two apps to run side by side simultaneously. With Siri AI and Apple Intelligence integration, the device performs in-app actions by understanding personal context.
Support for Apple Pencil with USB-C will be added to the device later this year.
Pricing and availability
Offered in star white and night sky color options, iPhone Duo comes in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage options. Starting at $1,999 in the US, pre-orders begin on Friday, October 16, 2026, with general availability starting on October 23, 2026.
