AI-powered productivity tools are increasingly extending beyond software developers to support a wider range of professional workflows. In this context, Cowork has been introduced as a new solution that adapts the working model developers use with Claude Code to non-technical tasks.

Direct access to folders on your computer

With Cowork, users can grant Claude access to a specific folder on their computer. Claude can then read, edit, or create files within that folder. The platform is designed for scenarios such as generating a spreadsheet from a collection of screenshots or producing a first draft from scattered notes.

Task planning and step-by-step execution

Once a task is set, Claude first creates a plan and then carries it out steadily, step by step. Throughout the process, users are kept informed and can provide feedback as needed. Claude asks for confirmation before taking any significant actions, allowing users to adjust direction and maintain control over the workflow.

Connections to external information sources

Cowork also allows Claude to use existing connectors that link it to external information sources. This enables more comprehensive outputs for tasks such as research, content creation, and comparisons. For tasks that require browser access, Cowork can be paired with Claude running in Chrome.

A new work model for non-technical teams

The platform targets teams working in areas that do not require technical expertise, including content creation, research, planning, and operational tasks. The goal is to bring the “give instructions, plan, execute, and iterate” approach familiar from Claude Code to teams in marketing, communications, and operations.

Available as a research preview on macOS

Cowork is currently available as a research preview for Claude Max subscribers through the macOS app. Users can access the feature by selecting “Cowork” from the sidebar.
